be on the lookout, she might be coming

presently my car is waiting for me to pick it up. it only took 74 days or so for it to travel from los angeles to toronto. it was definitely the biggest hold up of the move, but hopefully now the whole registration and licensing process will go smoothly and i will be ready to focus on more fun things, like anything but driving around in a rental car.

today i went to an awesome farmers market right in my neighborhood. i got beautiful blueberries, raspberries, peaches, chard, salad greens, zucchini, assorted string beans, tomatoes, and fresh lavender. i am hoping that i will be able to do most of my shopping at similar markets throughout the summer and early fall. in toronto, there are basically farmers markets throughout the city everyday. they are not always conveniently located for me though, but honestly the freshness and the relationship between the farmer and the consumer is unbeatable and might make the drive out of the way worthwhile. i like that i bought my salad greens from daniel and he was genuinely interested to know my name. take that globalization!

in terms of my big social action dream for the synagogue, i think it might be possible to start a farmers market one day during the summer and fall there. because we are looking for an ongoing project that families can do together i'm presently researching organizations that do community gardens, nutrition education and ways that the congregation might be able to join them and work together. if you are reading this and you have ideas, you should tell me about them.

my other stop of the day was http://www.hillstreetblues.ca/. besides having a great name for a jeans store, they had a great selection and i got three pair for $200. quite the bargain when you consider that about 15% of that was taxes. i should be set for jeans for the next five years at the rate i seem to buy them.
