"may i?" "may i what?" "pinch your cheeks?" "in a pig's eye."

today i was walking in the hallway and a woman, an older adult, pinched my cheeks and told me i looked like her daughter when she was young, when she was pudgy. i could take this personally, but i think what she meant to say was, "you remind me of a time when i was younger, and my daughter was younger, and i didn't have to do things like go places alone. truly i admire your energy and your intellect." why couldn't she just say that then?

as the title of this blog indicates, i am no longer an 'ish.' part of me though, wishes to always be an 'ish'. to never have people expect better of me than they do for themselves. i know, i know. idealist me talking again.

it stinks moving to a new place where i don't have a community of people. i'm trying hard to make friends but it isn't as easy as i might have hoped. this is sort of a strange notion for me, actually putting myself out there, not being shy. i wish it was working better and would happen easily so that i would at least reap the rewards of being bold.
